The Consumer Price Index (CPI) declined to 6.3% in March 2016
The term inflation means a sustained increase in the general level of prices for goods and services. It is measured as an annual percentage increase (for example March 2015 to March 2016).
The year-on-year inflation rate as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) slowed down to 6.3% in March 2016 from 7.0% recorded in February 2016.
The Food price increased to 9.8% in March 2016 from 8.8% in February 2016.
Transport inflation decreased to 4.5% in March 2016 from 8.7% in February 2016.
Public transport inflation increased to 2.9% in March 2016 from 2.6% in February 2016. (Buses, trains, and other forms of transport that are available to the public, charge set fares, and run on fixed routes.)
Administrator’s price (school fees, telephone fees, electricity, trains, and petrol/paraffin) decreased to 6.4% in March 2016 compared to 11.5% recorded in February 2016
